Robbery suspect facing felony charges following heist in Southwest Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A Southern California man is facing felony charges after Bakersfield Police officers say he robbed a Southwest Bakersfield store on Monday night.

Mike Loya, 38, is accused of entering the "Soul Purpose" store in the Town & Country Shopping Center at 4:59 p.m. Monday and robbing it with a replica firearm.

Investigators say Loya -- who is from Orange County -- appeared to shop at the store, picking out several items and leaving for a short time before returning with the weapon.

Witnesses say Loya took an unknown amount of cash, changed his clothes and ran into the nearby Quailwood neighborhood.

After calling in a helicopter & K9 units, officers found and arrested Loya for robbery, possession of a stolen car, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.
