BAKERSFIELD - Rocking chairs are being used to help raise money this weekend for the Alzheimer’s Association of Kern County. More than 150 people signed up for the fundraiser.
Organizers use rocking chairs and a variety of different games for the event. The Rock-a-thon included 22 teams and raised $1,500. The association will use that money to continue providing services for Alzhimer’s patients and their families including an adult day care, in-home assessments, educational seminars, training and support groups.
"Our message today is just to put out there, the awareness that there are over 10,000 people in Kern County with Alzheimer's and we have been around since 1984, but we are the best kept secret in Bakersfield," said organizer, Robin McGarrah.
Several area high school students volunteered. They helped serve food to all the members of the teams.
