The Rough Fire was the 13th largest in modern California history, and burned for nearly 5 months and over 110,000 acres.

Thousands of people were evacuated and over 3,750 fire personnel worked around the clock to help control and protect the park’s resources.

Although the fire seems to be completely catastrophic, the fire’s effects were mostly positive, and is a big part of the ecosystem's cycle.

Take a look at the in depth look at what caused this fire, and how the national park service is working to help protect these types of wild land fires in the future.
