BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Almonds, pistachios and walnuts -- they can all be found here in Kern County, and today they're being celebrated at the "Running of the Nuts" to help the Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House.
Runners will take off at 8 a.m., choosing to run a 5k event or simply walk it off by participating in a 1k event on Saturday morning.
Money raised at the race will go back to benefit the families of the Ronald McDonald house.
The festival was started to celebrate the health benefits of Kern County's growing nuts, like almonds and pistachios.
In case you're not able to make it to the race, fear not - the nut festival will run for most of the day. The festival itself will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Kern County Museum, 3108 Chester Ave. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for children.
