San Joaquin Community Hospital give flu shots to customers from their cars

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A Bakersfield hospital is helping more people get the flu vaccine from the convenience of their car.

The San Joaquin Community Hospital hosted a flu shot drive through Saturday.

Anyone 18 and older was able to get a flu shot for free from their vehicle.

Hospital spokesperson Melissa Vega said the flu changes every year and new strains are introduced. That is why it is important to get your flu shot.

"The manufacturers do try their best to include those strains in our influenza vaccine so you have to get the vaccine every year so your body is building antibodies against this strain," Vega said.

Vega said the virus in the vaccine is dead so you cannot get sick from the flu shot.
