BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Saturday morning hundreds of local special needs children will flood the field at Fruitvale-Norris Park to tryout for the 2013 season of League of Dreams.

The League of Dreams is a non-profit sports league for special needs athletes 5-22 that want to play baseball or basketball free of charge.

23ABC spoke with the director of the league, Jessica Mathews, about the significance of the program.

"They get a chance to participate on a team, make friends, have their parents watch and cheer them on", Mathews said.

The league has been going strong for five years now and a special field built last year with handicap modifications has made it even easier to play America's favorite pastime.

Mathews said any athletes interested in joining the league must come to Saturday's tryout 9am-1pm at Fruitvale-Norris Park,
