BAKERSFIELD - 30 veterans returned home this evening after spending the weekend in D.C., thanks to Kern County Honor flight and community donations.
The vets were able to see the memorials that stand in honor of their service, tour the U.S. Capitol Building and spend time with Congressman Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield.
It just happened that several other veterans were visiting the World War II Memorial at the same time on Sunday.
"There was a bunch of other World War Two vets from about four or five other states," Ralph Roberts, a World War II vet on the Kern County Honor Flight, said. There was over 400 of us there at the memorial at that one time, just a big group and we had a wonderful time."
This was the second honor flight from Kern County this month and the fourth overall. The next flight is scheduled for May 31.
Kern County Honor Flight said that the flights will continue for as long as they can secure funding and there are veterans that want to take the trip.
