BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Highway 99 is back open this morning after witnesses said a Sedan slammed into the back of a big rig.

At about 1:00 a.m., the truck driver said the car passed him at a high rate of speed and he watched as it rear-ended the truck near Hwy 99 and Merle Haggard Drive.

Kern County Firefighters had to cut two people free and they were taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

The CHP said alcohol may have played a factor.
