Sewage sludge bill passes local government committee

Addresses excessive sludge dumping in Kern County

Assemblyman Rudy Salas has pushed a bill through the assembly that protects local farming communities.

The Assembly Local Government Committee has passed Assembly Bill 371.

The bill addresses the excessive dumping of sludge on Kern County's farmland and the effects it has on the health, safety, and water quality in the area.

About 1,500 truck loads of human and industrial waste have been dumped on Kern County land since 2000.

AB 371 now moves to the assembly floor for a vote.
