BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Assemblywoman Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) today hosted the Bakersfield College football team at the state capitol to recognize their 2012 California Community College Athletic Association Football Championship. The BC Renegades defeated the City College of San Francisco by a score of 35 to 14 in December. Coach Jeff Chudy and players Clint Carter, Chris Hannible, Brandon Sarabia, Joey Stuart, John Oglesby and Grant Campbell made the trip up to Sacramento for the event.

“I could not be more proud of these young men,” stated Grove in a ceremony on the Assembly Floor in which she presented players with an Assembly Resolution. “Their hard work and sportsmanship on and off the field are an inspiration to us all. Kern County has been very well represented by the players, coaches and staff of Bakersfield College.”

Grove told fellow Assemblymembers about the more than 16,000 spectators who witnessed the win at Memorial Stadium in Bakersfield and jokingly chided the San Francisco representative about “whooping” his team.  It was the first state championship in program history. The 80 member State Assembly broke into applause as Grove recognized player Clint Carter’s service as a veteran who served four years with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.
