DERBY ACRES, Calif. - Kern County Sheriff's officials concluded an investigating into a deputy's actions in a shooting at Derby Acres on Nov. 10.
Senior Deputy Derrick Penney and Deputy Logan August shot at Steven Cordova after hours of standoff with deputies and SWAT.
A review board determined their use of force was within KCSO policy.
Deputies were called to a home at 12:25 a.m. They were told that Cordova, 40, intended suicide and was armed with multiple firearms, officials said.
Deputies were able to make contact with Cordova inside the residence. At about 3:35 a.m., Cordova opened the front door and fired several shots, officials said.
Cordova fired numerous shots inside the house, officials said.
SWAT was called to the scene as deputies evacuated surrounding people, officials said.
Deputies engaged Cordova, armed with an assault rifle and handgun, outside of the residence, officials said.
Cordova was shot and taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.
No deputies or civilians were hurt.
