Sheriff's deputies investigated a Lake Isabella homicide, have not made arrest

LAKE ISABELLA, Calif. - Sheriff's detectives have not made an arrest in a shooting in the 2100 block of Angler in Lake Isabella.

Deputies from the Kern County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a woman reporting that someone had been shot at a home in Lake Isabella.

When deputies arrived they found one man suffering from a gun shot wound.

The victim was air lifted to Kern Medical Center where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.  Two other adults at the residence were detained.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Tarman and the adult female had arrived at the home to retrieve personal property from 56-year-old Timothy Best.

Detectives said when Best refused to return the property, Tarman brought out a knife. Best was armed with a shotgun and fired one round at Tarman, striking him in the hip, detectives said.

Detectives determined that Best may have acted in self-defense and did not arrest him.

The investigation will be completed and submitted to the Kern County District Attorney's Office for review.
