Shooting on MLK Boulevard and Virginia Avenue

One dead, investigation still ongoing

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Police are still investigating an overnight shooting in East Bakersfield that left one person dead.

Sgt. Joe Grubbs of the Bakersfield Police Department, says officers received reports of a shooting at the 300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Virginia Avenue at around 9:59 p.m on Saturday, March 15.

Officers arrived on scene and found 23-year-old Alonso Gonzalez suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to Kern Medical Center, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Police have not released any information regarding the suspect. 

The investigation is going, and anyone with information is asked to call the Bakersfield Police Department.
