CHP reopening Highway 58

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - UPDATE 9:33 a.m.: CHP will escort drivers when Caltrans picks up cones.


As of 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Highway 58 is still closed. CHP and Caltrans are working to reopen the road this morning.


As of 4 p.m., the California Highway Patrol closed Highway 58 at Towerline Road and 1 mile west of Mojave.


As of 1:40 p.m., Highway 58 and the Grapevine are now open in both directions.


The California Highway Patrol closed Interstate 5 through the Grapevine and Highway 58 at Towerline Road due to snow.

At 12:30 p.m., the CHP started escorting cars through the Grapevine. There is no ETA when the pass will fully open.

As of 1:15 p.m., CAL Trans has opened SR223.

SR-33 was closed from SR-166 to Lockwood Valley Road.

Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM PST this evening above 1500 feet.

* Snow accumulations: 3 to 7 inches above 1500 feet. Some snow accumulations near 1000 feet.

* Timing: snow will begin late tonight... with heavier snow developing during the morning Saturday. Snow is expected to taper off during evening Saturday.

* Locations include: Tehachapi... Lake Isabella... Interstate 5 over the Grapevine... Highway 58 through Tehachapi Pass.

* Winds: gusts around 50 mph through mountain passes and higher elevations will cause drifting and blowing snow at times.

* Impacts: slick and snow covered roads with winter driving conditions are likely. Motorists should anticipate travel delays and possible Road closures.
