BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - At least six apartments suffered extensive damage in an early morning fire at The Springs apartment complex in Southwest Bakersfield.
The fire started at about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday morning at 8201 Camino Media, according to the Bakersfield Fire Department.
When crews arrived, they said fire was seen from the front and roof of the two story apartment complex, with four of the six units involved.
The first responding crew called for assistance due to the size of the fire.
After investigation, officials said the second floor was heavily involved in the fire, with minimal involvement in the attic.
The BFD crew used multiple hose lines and attacked the fire from several locations to keep it from spreading, according to the report.
Bakersfield City and Kern County fire crews were able to knock the fire down in about 30 minutes, but officials estimate at least $850,000 in damage.
"Families [have been] displaced until utilities are back in place," said Bakersfield Fire Department Battalion Chief Anthony Galagaza.
There are no reports of any injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
