Leticia Perez has chance at runoff election

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Republican Andy Vidak has been the presumed winner of the State Senate race, but new polling numbers have taken away his lead.
Vidak currently has 49 percent of the total votes for the 16th District. He would need 51 percent of the vote to avoid a runoff election.
Vidak obtained that majority after Tuesday's election and his challenger, Leticia Perez conceded early Wednesday.
23ABC spoke with Perez's campaign and they said late absentee and provisional ballots out of Fresno County were in Perez's favor, hence taking away Vidak's lead.
Perez now hold 43 percent of the vote, just six percentage points away from Vidak.
The state elections office said absentee and provisional ballots will be counted for another week with the official count ending next Friday.
If Vidak continues to stay below 51 percent of the vote, the run off election between him and Leticia Perez will take place July 23.
