BAKERSFIELD - The National Honor Society at Stockdale High School is getting ready to celebrate local veterans during a special ceremony this week.
The students are inviting all area veterans to campus this Friday for an appreciation day.
Members of the National Honor Society have been preparing for a few weeks now.
The event will include a video presentation made by students, food and entertainment.
"I really think it's important for them to see how much sacrifice really means because these veterans have given and some of them have given them the ultimate sacrifice and so I think it’s really important for everyone to understand that," said student, Matthew Cline
The Honor Society is made up of more than three hundred students at Stockdale High School.
As part of the group, students focus on giving back to the community through events like this.
"Especially, in Bakersfield, we have a great support system for our veterans and I think it gives a sense of community in Kern County and Bakersfield, we have people that we're proud of for what they've done for our country," said student, Sarah Freesemann.
Students with the national honor society will welcome veterans starting at 2:45 Friday afternoon at the library at Stockdale High School.
