TAFT, Calif. -
Students in Taft are trying to beat the heat while they wait for a brand new air conditioning system to be installed.
The school district has decided to go to half days because the heat inside Lincoln Junior High is so bad.
The school is in a very old building that is not air conditioned.
Crews are installing a new a/c system thanks to a bond measure approved by voters last year.
But, the work wasn't finished in time for the start of school and Monday temperatures soared to nearly 110 degrees.
While they wait for the work to be done, students will have half days for at least the next two weeks.
