BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Dozens of local high school students were ready to show off their vocational skills on Friday.

The Kern High School District's annual Skills Olympics was held at the district's regional occupational center on Mt. Vernon Avenue.

There were no athletics in the competition; instead students competed in 16 different career fields including auto body repair, banking and finance, computer technology, fashion, and nursing.

Students have learned their career technical skills through capstone programs at ROC.  The Kern Community local businesses have provided funds, food, materials and professional support to help sponsor this event.

The students were judged by local business professionals and the top three winners in each category received gold, silver, and bronze medals.
