Two suspects arrested following early-morning SWAT standoff

Suspects arrested for connection with shooting

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Two Bakersfield men were arrested following an early-morning standoff with Bakersfield Police officers at a home in Central Bakersfield.

On Tuesday, April 30, at about 1:00 a.m., officers with the Bakersfield Police Department tried to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 700 block of K Street.

During the traffic stop, officers said the passenger fled the vehicle. The investigation led officers to a home in the area and numerous surrender call outs were made by officers.  A perimeter was established and the SWAT Team went to the location.

Members of the B.P.D. SWAT Team ordered the suspect, identified as James Lamar Thomas, 26, to come outside and surrounded the house for several hours.  Thomas surrendered just before 4:00 a.m. and officers took him into custody.

Thomas was arrested for attempted murder, participation in a criminal street gang, evading an officer and a weapons violation.

Thomas was wanted in connection with the shooting that occurred in the 1900 block of Eye Street on April 20.

The investigation later led officers to arrest 29-year-old Raymond Allen, the driver of the vehicle in the initial attempted traffic stop Tuesday morning.

Allen was arrested for attempted murder, resisting arrest, felon in possession of a firearm and participation in a criminal street gang for his involvement in the Eye Street shooting on April 20.

The investigation is ongoing.
