BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Two parents are in custody after their 3-month-old infant was found dead Saturday morning.

On Jan. 19, at about 8:30 a.m., deputies went to an apartment complex on South Union Avenue regarding a baby not breathing.

When deputies arrived they found a 3-month-old Adrian Cortez not breathing.  Adrian was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives went to the scene and started an investigation.

Detectives arrested the mother of the child, 37-year-old Teresa Corrales, and the father, 38-year-old Luis Cortez.

Both were arrested for felony child abuse and being under the influence of a controlled substance. Corrales and Cortez were booked into the Central Receiving Facility.

A four-year-old sibling, also living in the home, was placed into protective custody.

An autopsy is scheduled for next week to determine the manner and cause of death.

No further information is being released at this time
