All has returned back to normal at San Joaquin Community Hospital after a suspicious package was found by an employee inside a trash can.
At about 1:15 a.m., Bakersfield police received a report of a suspicious package at SJCH.
A SJCH employee located a suspicious package inside of a trash can. A security guard picked the package up and carried it outside of the hospital onto 27 Street officials said. The Bakersfield Police Department Bomb Squad inspected the package and determined that it did not contain any explosive material.
During the investigation, 27 Street between Chester Ave and H Street was shut down for approximately three hours. During the three hour closure, ambulances were diverted away from San Joaquin Hospital. The emergency room remained open to patients arriving at the hospital but they were diverted to an alternate entrance with a police escort. Businesses along the north side of 27 Street were closed and unoccupied.
There were no evacuations and the hospital did not receive any threats.
