Taft City Council approves to reopen correctional facility

State must approve contract before opening

BAKESFIELD, Calif. - The Taft City Council approved to reopen the city's correctional facility during their meeting, Thursday night. 

The council unanimously approved a four and a half year contract with the State Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for $51 million. 

The contract will now head to the state for final approval. 

If the state approves the contract the facility could open as early as February.
