Taft man arrested with high-powered rifle after scaring neighbors

TAFT, Calif. -
People in Taft spot a man with a high-powered rifle and call deputies.
The 22-year-old suspect was found hiding behind a home on the extreme west side of Taft.
When neighbors confronted him, they say he picked up a rifle with a scope and ran into the oilfields.
Deputies tracked the man until they found him hiding next to some oil equipment.
They say the man had a 30.06 rifle but surrendered peacefully.
Deputies say the suspect, whose name has not been released, surrendered peacefully and no shots were fired.
Deputies say the man appears to be from Taft.
He was charged with trespassing and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
