Teenage girl arrested on first-degree murder charge in connection to 2-year-old's death

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A teen who was caring for a 2-year-old was arrested on charges of first-degree murder.

Kern County Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives arrested a 17-year-old girl for one count of first-degree murder and one count of assault on a child causing death in relation to the death of 2-year-old Kayden Webb.

Webb was found not breathing and unresponsive earlier Monday in an apartment in the 1700 block of Jefferson Street in east Bakersfield. Webb was later pronounced dead at KMC.

Detectives were able to determine that the suspect was caring for the child at the time of his death.

The suspect is an acquaintance of the victim’s mother. During the investigation detectives were able to develop probable cause that the suspect was responsible for the child’s death.

The suspect was booked in to juvenile hall. An autopsy has been scheduled for December 17. The investigation is ongoing.
