Tehachapi celebrates 50 years of rodeo Friday, Saturday with local ranch hands competing

Rodeo held at Tehachapi Rodeo Grounds

TEHACHAPI, Calif. - The city of Tehachapi will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the city's rodeo with the Ram Rodeo Series this Friday and Saturday.

Gates opened at the Tehachapi Rodeo Grounds off Dennison Road at 5 p.m., Friday night.

The event will feature a competition between the top cowboys and cowgirls in Kern County.

The Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association, a group of volunteers, organized the rodeo in order to preserve the western lifestyle.

"We think the moral fiber of the American icon, the cowboy, comes through our cowboys that compete not only in the area but through our pick-up men, our stock contractor, and the local ranchers that supports this (rodeo)," said Dal Bunn, committee chairman of the Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association .

Saturday nights performances start at 6 p.m.

General admission tickets are $15 and $13 for seniors, active military and children ages 5 to 12.
