TEHACHAPI, Calif. - A 54-year-old Tehachapi man was shot to death on Thursday night.
Tehachapi Police officials identified the victim as James Earl Motts who was found injured and bleeding at a house in the 49500 block of Michael Avenue.
Officials said they received a report at about nine p.m. that someone had been found injured and bleeding at the residence located in Ashe Village.
Officers arrived at the scene and found Motts had been shot and was unresponsive. Hall Ambulance and Kern County Fire personnel responded to the incident and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The death is being investigated as a homicide. An autopsy has been tentatively scheduled for Monday.
Officials did not confirm if the death is connected to recent reports of shootings in the City of Tehachapi or the murder of Larry Dale Reagan on Old West Ranch on Sept. 28.
Last week the officials issued a news release indicating that police believed three other shooting incidents were related to the shooting of Reagan and said that Tehachapi Police and the Kern County Sheriff's Office were investigating.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call TPD at (661) 822-2222 or the Police Communications Center at (661) 821-3239.
