Tehachapi Mayor Ed Grimes has passed away at age 75, according to city officials.

Officials say Grimes died at home on Monday at 1:45 p.m. surrounded by family. According to the city website, Grimes lived in the Tehachapi area for close to 70 years and attended school in the area. He has also served as the "voice of the Warriors" for the past 20 years.

Grimes served as mayor during three inconsecutive terms, from 2006-2008, 2010-2012, and 2016-present, and he served as a member of city council since January 2003. A moment of silence will be observed during Monday's previously scheduled city council meeting.

Grimes also helped fund a scholarship for local Tehachapi students. "Ed was a great Mayor but an even better person," said City Manager Greg Garrett in a release from the city.

"I've had the pleasure of serving with numerous City Council members but Ed will always be my Mayor. His kindness and genuine love for Tehachapi will be remembered for a long, long time," Garrett said.

Preparations are being made for celebrating Grimes' life. His cause of death is unknown and this story is developing, check back for updates.
