TEHACHAPI, Calif. -
Sheriff's arrested Steven C. Vogel on Tuesday. Deputies with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Tehachapi Substation said they were investigating allegations regarding a man who had been involved in unlawful sexual acts with two juvenile boys in the Tehachapi area.
Officials said the suspect, 26-year-old Steven Vogel, allegedly met the two juveniles on social networking sites.
He then met with each juvenile separately and engaged in various sexual acts, according to Tehachapi police reports.
Vogel has been involved in the Tehachapi community and led organizations geared toward children.
In 2012 Vogel ran for a spot on the Tehachapi School Board.
After losing that race, he became president of The Tehachapi Anti-bullying Coalition.
On Feb. 12, Vogel was arrested for oral copulation with a person under the age of 16 years, arranging a meeting with a minor, communicating with a minor with the intent to commit a sex offense, lewd and lascivious acts with a child, and sodomy with a person under 16 years of age, according to police.
Police said Vogel was booked into the Sheriff’s Office Central Receiving Facility. His bail has been set at $200,000.
