A rally in Tehachapi had to be canceled on Sunday after organizers say they found threats online.

The demonstration, organized in response to the violent clashes between white nationalists and protestors in Charlottesville, Virginia, was supposed to take place near W. Tehachapi Boulevard and Tucker Rd.

Stacy Poetz, one of the people organizing the event, says that threatening comments online forced the group to cancel the vigil.

"All we wanted to do was do a vigil, we wanted to light a candle for the three lives lost," Poetz said, referencing the woman killed by a car and the two police officers killed in a helicopter crash.

After the rally was canceled, Poetz and others joined a march through downtown Bakersfield to the Liberty Bell on Sunday night.

The group says they plan to involve the Tehachapi Police Department, reorganize and try to hold the vigil on either Thursday or Friday.
