BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Over five hundred future engineers from all over Kern County gathered this afternoon in front of the student union at CSUB to participate in this years engineers day where they were able to learn from hands-on activities to get just a taste of what their future holds.
Students from 23 schools across Kern County joined in on the engineering festivities today at CSUB for the 13th annual engineering day.
The event offered local high school students the opportunity to find out what engineers and geologists do and explore careers in their future field.
"It's wonderful to show them that it's an applied field and get them out of the classroom a little bit" said one local high school teacher.
One sponsor from the Society of Petroleum Engineers Omar Hayat, said todays event included industry demonstrations and hands-on activities focused on spreading awareness of the engineering world.
"The big thing is awareness, were trying to show them the opportunities they have in front of them"
Students had the opportunity to further discover the growing importance of engineers through presentations and talking to professionals in the field about the required skills and ethics.
The event grew 10-percent from last year and Hayat said that they are looking to make the event two days next year in order to reach more students and provide more learning opportunities.
