BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Hundreds of people signed up to take part in a benefit run this weekend that pays tribute to fallen officers
The Kern County Sheriff's Benefit Association hosted its annual Honor Run along Hart Park. The money from the event helps fund the organization which assists families of fallen deputies. It provides scholarships for the children left behind.
The Honor Run also gives some of the money raised to the sheriff's activities league which organizes youth activities throughout the community. The biggest winner included a high school sophomore who came in first place in the 5K.
“I’ve had good friends of my dads who have passed away so I could really relate to them" said one runner whose dad is a member of the Sheriff's department.
The fundraiser included a BBQ and family games and prizes for the runners. This is the second year for the run.
