The city council has unanimously passed an ordinance to ban pot shops

Pot shops banned by Bakersfield ordinance

Council members voted unanimously to pass an ordinance that bans all medical marijuana dispensaries within the Bakersfield city limits.
The ordinance was requested by Ward Two council member Terry Maxwell.
Maxwell asked the city attorney's office to craft an ordinance that would ban all medicinal marijuana shops in Bakersfield's city limits.
It follows a recent ruling by California's supreme court which allows cities and counties to make their own laws regarding dispensaries.
City attorney Virginia Gennaro said it will give the city one more resource to fight against pot shops.
