The City of Bakersfield Animal Control Division to give free microchips for licensed dogs

Event will be Dec. 8

The City of Bakersfield Animal Control Division is hosting another “Holiday Pet Event.”

On Saturday, Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Tractor Supply Company, located at 2749 Calloway Drive, will again be hosting a “Holiday Pet Event.”

During the event, the City of Bakersfield Animal Control Division will be offering free microchips with lifetime registration to all currently licensed dogs.

The cost is $10 for dogs without a current license.

The electronic microchip is becoming the preferred form of animal & owner identification and is considered the pet’s “ticket home.” A microchip is the only form of “permanent” identification and microchip scanning is performed routinely
by field staff, shelters, and veterinarians.

The City of Bakersfield Animal Control Division’s goal is to lessen the possibility of animals with microchips entering the shelter.
