The community gathered at the eighth annual Bakersfield College Garden Fest

The 100th tree was planted for BC's centennial

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Saturday was a beautiful day to spend some time outdoors and that's exactly what some people did at Bakersfield College's annual Garden Fest.

This was the eighth year Bakersfield College has hosted the festival.

Visitors got to learn about gardening, floral design and cooking tips.

Area Businesses also had booths set up with crafts and Jewelry.

This year was also special because BC celebrated its centennial anniversary by planting the 100th tree on campus.

"Today's tree is our centennial tree called the live oak. It's a beautiful tree that symbolizes strength and endurance," said Lindsay Ono with the Bakersfield College agriculture department.

Over the last six months 99 trees have been planted on campus and organizers said the garden festival is a great way to bring the community together.
