BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The sunny weather Saturday attracted many to the Kern County Fairgrounds for the Central Valley Sportsman's show.
Hunters, fishermen, campers and anyone who likes the outdoors found something to do at the show. Even the little ones were occupied.
The Kids Trout Derby had a long line all day as kids anxiously waited to get their turn to catch their very own trout.
The Taft Sportsman's Club stocked the tank with about a thousand pounds of trout. The biggest catch are some two to three pounders like the one Noah Gutierrez caught.
"I reeled it in with a fishing rod. I didn't actually pull it, I just used the crank," Noah said in excitement about his catch.
The volunteers at the kids trout derby enjoy the excitement too.
"One guy has been doing it for ten years. I've been helping them for three years. We all just come out to volunteer and help all day long. I just like to see the kids get out and have a good time," Said Billy Braishe a kids trout derby volunteer.
After reeling in their prize trout, the kids step up in the big stage just like the pros to show of their catches.
The event is open Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
