TEHACHAPI, Calif. -
Today three schools in Tehachapi gathered at the Tehachapi Municipal Airport to send off their rockets during the intermediate space challenge.
One by one their weeks of hard work blasted off into the sky.
“I’ve always enjoyed coming to see the rockets and painting the rockets and coming up with a slogan and the name. I think this is a really good experience for the fourth and fifth graders" said Madisyn Davenport an aspiring astronaut and fifth grade student.
While the kids were having a good time they were also exploring new opportunities through science and math,
The event was judged on five different categories: an essay, a banner, rocket integration, the rocket launch and of course team spirit.
Each school was given the same rules and criteria but some were more successful than others
“Even though all of our rockets were the same, some went higher and some didn’t. Sometimes it doesn’t work out and you need to just try, try again," said T.J. Nichols a fifth grade student.
Although all of the classes did a great job this year the trophy went to Mrs. Tietz 5th grade class from Tompkins elementary.
