Thousands in Bakersfield fed by church volunteers

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Hundreds of community members and 13 Kern County churches are providing Thanksgiving dinner to 40,000 people in Bakersfield Thursday.

This is the sixth year “Love For Thanksgiving” has been organized and served.

The event is in the parking lot of the Costco at Rosedale Highway and Highway 99. The event started at 9 a.m. and goes until food runs out, at 1 p.m. or 2 p.m.

Volunteers assembled the meals and drove all over the county to deliver them to those in need.

One group delivered about 500 meals to the Church without Walls in Oildale, where many people without homes came to enjoy the holiday meal.

The participating churches are Crossroads Christian Fellowship, Olive Knolls Church, Valley Bible Fellowship, The Bridge Bible Church, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Laurelglen Bible Church, St. Paul’s Church, Rosedale Bible Church, Harvest Baptist Church, Living Grace, Bakersfield First Assembly, Amazing Grace and Valley Baptist Church.

The volunteers prepared the food separately on Tuesday.
