Three people pulled from car following early morning crash on Hwy. 178

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Three people were rescued from a crumpled pickup truck following an early morning crash on Highway 178 in East Bakersfield.

The accident happened at 1:57 a.m. Monday after a grey Toyota Tundra careened off the on-ramp to Eastbound Highway 178 at Oswell Street

According to the California Highway Patrol, the pickup truck then hit a tree -- trapping three people inside.

Bakersfield City and Kern County firefighters worked to cut the men out of the mangled truck -- and the victims were taken to Kern Medical Center with major injuries.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. CHP officials tell 23ABC News that alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
