BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - One of three college students charged with committing a hate crime against their black roommate at San Jose State University was from Bakersfield, said authorities.
According to police, Logan Baeschler,18, and two other freshman have been accused of putting a bike lock around the neck of the their roommate, writing the a racial slur on a white board and hanging nazi symbols around the room their shared, prosecutors said.
The other two students were identified as Joseph Bomgardner, 19, of Clovis and Colin Warren, 18, of Woodacre.
All three students were charged with misdemeanor hate crime and battery, the Santa Clara district attorney's office said.
Beaschler was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on Thursday. His bail was set at $15,000.
All three students could face up to a year in jail if convicted.
