Toddler treated for meth under protective custody, mother arrested

OILDALE, Calif. - Kern County's Sheriff's deputies have arrested the mother of a child who ingested methamphetamine Friday.

Thirty-one-year-old Misty Dawn Ewers faces charges for cruelty to a child and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

According to investigators a friend of Ewers noticed the child was acting strange and decided to take the 2-year-old to Mercy Southwest Hospital.

While being treated at the hospital officials found traces of meth in the toddler's blood work.

Ewers was arrested at the hospital and both her kids were taken under protective custody.

This is the third time Ewers' kids have been placed under custody.
