BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The jury trial has started for a man accused of first degree murder.
Deputies with the Kern County Sheriff's Office arrested 20-year-old Ismael Arcenio Leon who is accused of killing 23-year-old Javier Meraz.
Back in January, deputies were sent to a home in the 100 block of Griffith Street in southwest Bakersfield regarding a shooting.
When deputies arrived, they said they found Meraz with gunshot wounds to his hands and torso. Meraz was taken to Kern Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives said they were able to develop enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant for 20-year-old Ismael Arsenio Leon.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Special Investigations Division Gang Suppression Section were able to locate and arrest Leon at a home in the 6500 block of Cottonwood Road.
