BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A plan is in the works to change the face of downtown Bakersfield.
The push for urban development is being led by the Downtown Business Association Corporation.
The Urban Development Plan allows for many new businesses and events that will eventually bring more people downtown.
The DBDChas rolled out its framework for the plan and recently presented it to city leaders. The plan is to update and create new downtown districts.
Officials want to grow and improve city parks, as well as create a better lighting system to provide public safety.
Now, leaders would like to develop entertainment programs and a calendar of events.
They say having a strong venue for people to visit encourages public participation and creates a better sense of place.
A big part of the development includes fundraising.
An event hoping to raise enough funds for the plan is scheduled for September.
