Ventura police arrest Bakersfield man in recent robberies

VENTURA, Calif. - A 41-year-old Bakersfield man was arrested today in connection with two recent robberies in Ventura, police said.

Jose Mendoza was identified as the suspect in the crimes that occurred on Tuesday and detectives obtained a search warrant for his residence, Ventura police said.

Detectives arrested Mendoza today on suspicion of attempted robbery and robbery and was booked into Ventura County jail, police said. The first robbery occurred about 6:05 a.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of North Ventura Avenue. Mendoza allegedly entered a business and gave the clerk a note demanding money, police said. The clerk handed the note back with no money and Mendoza left the store and area, police said.
