DELANO, Calif. - Walmart will hire about 300 associates to work at the new Walmart slated to open this summer in Delano.
A temporary hiring center has opened today at 1427 S. Lexington Ave., Suite A-9 in the same shopping center as the Walmart store.
"This community has faced challenges because of the recent recession and the unemployment is still astronomical for such a small community,” said Delano Mayor Joe Aguirre. “The new Walmart and the jobs its bringing into our community is welcome news."
Applications will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at the hiring center. Interested applicants can also apply online 24 hours a day at http://careers.walmart.com or utilize the online kiosks at the temporary hiring center during business hours.
According to store manager Chris Fulmer, the store will be hiring both full- and part-time associates.
“We are excited to add a new Walmart to Delano and bring good jobs with great career opportunities to the area,” said Fulmer. “I look forward to meeting job seekers who have good customer service skills and want to help serve this community.”
The majority of new associates will begin work in June to help prepare the store for its grand opening.
Beginning Memorial Day 2013, Walmart will offer a job to any honorably discharged veteran within his or her first 12 months of off active duty. The company projects that it will hire more than 100,000 veterans over the next five years.
