WASCO, Calif. - An escapee of Wasco State Prison was arrested again Sunday afternoon and is in custody, according to Captain F. Harl of Wasco State Prison.
Harl said in a statement that Jeffery Landers, 34, was arrested on Sunday, August 3 at approximately 2:10 p.m. in an orchard by the Merced County Sheriff's Office and placed into police custody without any use of force. Harl said Landers had a 10-inch screwdriver in his possession.
The captain said that on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at approximately 5:39 p.m., officials at the WSP-RC received information that Landers had escaped while he was inside a transport.
Landers was arrested in Riverside County on November 19, 2013 accused of a first degree murder charge, and also had an enhancement for a personal use of a dangerous or deadly weapon. He was serving a life sentence.
