Wasco voters reject plan to unify school districts

Measure A falls far short

WASCO, Calif. - A plan to combine the Wasco Union Elementary School District and the Wasco High School District has been defeated by voters.

With 100% of precincts reporting, voters overwhelmingly rejected Measure A -- 65 percent opposed to 34 percent in favor.

The measure would have unified both districts into a single entity.

Supporters of the measure said combining the districts would have created an easier transition for students from middle school to high school.

But opponents said contracts for teachers and other staff would have to be renegotiated.
