The water resources department was the agency who recommended *city-wide* watering schedules earlier this year and with recent news that Bakersfield isn't saving enough water compared to the state, they want to *fine* water wasters.

The water board met Wednesday  to discuss an emergency ordinance that would create a way for the city to cite people who are wasting water.  The ordinance would have to be approved by the city council.

The water resources manager says for everyone who has been wondering if fines are coming...now is the time to save or face financial penalties.

For *two* months now, the city of Bakersfield water district has not met the state mandated *36-percent* decrease in water use and as we see now, the water board is considering enforcement.

The price of these fines will be $50-dollars for the first offense, $150.00  for the second, all the way up to one thousand dollars for each offense in a calendar year.
The city council will consider this ordinace to fine water wasters at their next meeting on September 16th.
