Week honors local law enforcement who lost their lives in the line of duty

You can help honor fallen officers this week

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Monday morning kicks-off Peace Officer Memorial week, a chance for you to pay your respects to the men who died while serving and protecting Kern County.

The Bakersfield Police Department will begin their ceremony at 7am Monday morning in front of BPD headquarters on Truxtun Avenue.

Officials say Truxtun ave. between Eye and H street will be closed for about 30 minutes during the memorial.

Kern County Sheriff's Office ceremony will take place at 10am at their headquarters, 1350 Norris Road in Oildale.

Another large ceremony is being held at Kern County Peace Officer's Memorial at 1415 Truxtun Ave. at noon.

All three ceremonies are open to the public.

This week you'll see flags at half-staff and law enforcement with black bands around their badges.

31 members of KCSO and seven BPD officers have lost their lives over the years.
