BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - What's Happening' Kern County? Here's a compiled list of the fun events happening in Bakersfield and Kern County for the weekend of October 4 and 5.

NAMI Walk

If you have a family member or friend who suffers from bi-polar disorder, depression or any other mental illness, the annual Nami Walk of Kern County helps raise funds and awareness. The annual walk is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. 

The 5k Walk is being held at the Park at Riverwalk. Check in is at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m.

Tehachapi Apple Festival

Tehachapi's Apple Festival is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The free festival features old style carnival games, live music and an apple pie eating contest.

The festival will benefit the Make-a-Wish  Foundation, Tehachapi Boy Scout Troop 3 and the Tehachapi Lyons Club. The festival is at the Tehachapi Railroad Park.

CBCC Chili Cook Off

The Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center is holding its first annual chili cook off. The cook off is paired with its 3rd annual CBCC Foundation car and bike show.

It will be held in the parking lot of CBCC on the Truxton Extension from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is free to attend, but will cost if you want to participate.

Good Neighbor Festival

Clinica Sierra Vista and the Southeast Neighborhood Partnership is hosting its annual good neighbor festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Park.

 The free event offers family-friendly entertainment, food and games. Several health organizations will be on-site to provide free immunizations, dental exams, vision exams and health information. The park is at 1000 South Owens Street.

Veterans' Memorial Run

The fifth annual Veterans' Memorial Run is Saturday. Registration starts at 8 a.m. at Bikersfield on Fairhaven Drive off of Rosedale Highway.

The ride starts at 10 a.m., and it will go to the American Legion Post 26 on H Street. It is $15 for a single rider, $35 for two and lunch is $7.

Ole Time Peddler's Faire

The 20th annual Old Time Peddler's Fair is a the Kern Count Museum. There will be a variety of vendors and food with live music.

Admission is $12 and kids under 10 are free with a paid adult. The Faire is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Kern County Museum is at 3801 Chester Avenue.

Bakersfield Jam Tryouts

If you think you are good enough to play for the Bakersfield Jam, you can show off your skill in front of the team's coaches and try out for the D-League Basketball team.

Tryouts are being held at the Dignity Health Event Center on Norris Road. Registration is at 10 a.m. The tryout will cost $200.

Guelagetza 2013

Guelagetza 2013 at CSUB is today. The Guelagetza is a cultural event, full of folkloric dances, traditional music, arts and crafts. The event is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and tickets are $7.

Bloody Mary Contest

It is the sixth annual Bloody Mary Contest at the Prime Cut on Brimhall Road. Awards will be given for the best overall, second place, amateur and fan favorite.

The contest is from noon to 5 p.m. It is free to attend, but samples from contestants are $3 each.
